Psychic Sally Morgan not so psychic. You decide.

Psychic Sally Morgan or just Sally Morgan?

If you’ve read my blog before, you know that I am sceptical about those who claim to communicate with the dearly departed.

With so many ‘mediums’ having been apparently exposed in the past, it was a matter of time before another was also the subject of claims of fraudulent abilities.

THEY were ‘hearing voices’ but not the ones they had been hoping for.

Dublin’s Grand Canal Theatre last night denied allegations that a spiritual medium was being fed lines while on stage on Sunday night.

More than 2,000 people watched TV star Sally Morgan, alias ‘Psychic Sally’, seeming to make contact with the spiritual world at the sell-out performance.

However, callers to RTE’s ‘Liveline’ yesterday allege a voice at the back of the auditorium was relaying information to the 58-year-old while she was on stage.

“The first half of the show went really well but when the second half started we could clearly hear a man’s voice coming from the window behind us,” caller ‘Sue’ told ‘Liveline’ yesterday.

“Everything he said, the psychic would say 10 seconds later. It was as if she was having the information relayed to her.”

The audience member said a number of people in her row heard the man speaking, but when an usher heard him, the window closed and the voice disappeared.

Stephen Faloon, the theatre’s general manager, last night denied anything underhand was going on and said the voice heard by the audience belonged to two ‘follow-spot operators’ working for the theatre, and not Ms Morgan.

“These two guys, Stuart McKeown and Mick Skelly, are professional light technicians who were working for us, and unfortunately because a window had been left open, were heard talking.

Distraction

“But as soon an usherette heard them talking, and informed her supervisor, the window closed and the talking stopped.

“It was a slight distraction but that was the chain of events on Sunday night.”

The theatre stressed it would “never be a part of any scam”, or attempt to “mislead” its audience.

A spokesman for Sally Morgan Enterprises yesterday refuted the suggestion that the medium was being fed information during the Dublin show.

“There are absolutely no plants on Sally’s show. This is her gift and she has been sharing it for years with audiences and doesn’t need to do that,” said the spokesman.

The theatre said it had received “no complaints”.

“The only complains were about how long the queue was to meet Sally after the show. We were expecting 300 people and we got 700, which is a record here,” added Mr Faloon.

Ms Morgan describes herself as ‘Britain’s Best Loved Psychic’ and has said that her “psychic life” began before she could even walk.

“I heard voices when I was only nine months old. I saw my first spirit or ghost when I was just four,” she says on her website.

From a psychic practice that she first ran from home, the mother of three has gone on to star in television programmes for ITV and Sky.

She has penned two bestselling books on her life and work.

A third book on death has just been published.

In 2008 it was claimed that the Londoner had a waiting list of 72,000 people for her time.

Sally Morgan returns to the Grand Canal Theatre in Dublin on March 27 and 28 next year.

I’m guessing its a matter of time that investigations into these allegations step up, Sally will either demonstrate credible evidence of her ability. Confess, or eventually in this whirlwind of bad publicity and ruined reputation… she’ll popoff !

Until next time…

Wedding magic giveaway!

30 Apr

An article and offer by Hampshire Magician Sean Boon

With television programmes such as ‘Four weddings’ featuring in primetime hours the pressure is on for couples to make their big event even bigger.

Hiring a magician for your wedding is a fantastic way of making your big day that little bit more memorable for your guests and stand out from so many other weddings!

I provide a variety of packages when taking bookings based on my vast experience of the periods at weddings that are best suited for entertainment, one of which is up for grabs completely free of charge ! I am waiving my fee.

There are three blocks of time that I feel are the most beneficial of a wedding magician.

During the bride and groom photocall.

Mixing and mingling with your guests while the happy couple are whisked away for their photographs.

Using a magician to mix with your guests during this time can relieve any long waits and begin to create an atmosphere that will continue through to the reception.

During dinner, before or after the speeches.

I am sensitive to the needs of you and your guests and therefore don’t wish to interrupt whilst family members that may have travelled long distances take the stand to share their congratulations and host the speeches.

If guests are seated for a meal, by providing walkaround entertainment during this time that interacts with the guests will make any delays in the kitchen seem smaller than they may be.

You can expect a diverse repertoire at your table, card tricks, mind reading stunts, bar bets and gambling scams. Enough to keep you entertained or perplexed. But not too much that it becomes an intrusion to the enjoyment of your day.

The final recommendation is after dinner during the period prior to your disco or band.

Most weddings have some kind of musical entertainment for their guests, but with a number of guests that may not be familiar with eachother the dancefloor can initially seem quiet as they have not yet bonded or lost their inhibitions.

Or even to act as an alternative for those that cannot or do not want to dance!

Hiring myself to mix and mingle at this time allows for tables of guests to engage with eachother as I try to involve groups of people in some of the routines I perform.

Bringing families together with ice-breakers that they’ll talk about in years to come.

There is of course total flexibility in providing this type of entertainment at your wedding and you are very welcome to contact me to discuss your needs should you wish to pay to use me at your wedding.

Sad times for Japan.

12 Mar

Japan suffers tsunami and earth tremors on 11/03/11 Followed by a nuclear disaster 12/03/11

Japan is a place I am fascinated with, their culture both ancient and modern.
I have not yet been lucky enough to visit Japan and currently I am hoping so much that still be able to within my lifetime.

After seeing the news of the tsunami my heart went out to all those affected, I have made some great contacts based in Japan through magic work and music. Even appearing in a Japanese fashion magazine. They are a wonderful culture of people, warm, generous, caring and friendly.

The size of the wave hitting Japan was huge but still it didn’t completely register with me as it seemed relatively localised.

It wasn’t until I saw the news this morning with news of the nuclear plant at Fukushima exploding under pressure that I really began to wonder whether this means the end of the land of the rising sun.
Are we about to face another Chernobyl or worse?

The cause of all of this is mother nature, again we are at her mercy. The direction of the wind governing the lives of those affected by radioactive clouds.

I’ve written this brief article to not only contribute to raising awareness to those who for whatever reason have not followed the news but to implore you to not only spend time praying for the people, but to actually do something more constructive than thought alone.

DONATE, DONATE, DONATE.

If you are in the UK this is the link to the Red cross.

If you are in the USA donate here

In case you need reminding why they need your help.

Seriously world, step in and do something.

Arthur Conan Doyle Victorian seance

13 Feb

I have recently volunteered my time to a council project in my area. (keeps my mind active)

If you were not aware, Arthur Conan Doyle the author that brought you Sherlock Holmes used to live in Portsmouth !

Recently the city has inherited a collection of his belongings and are putting together a series of events to celebrate his life.

Arthur Conan Doyle spent a lot of his life devoted to the Spiritualist movement and was pivotal in the phenomena of spirit photography. The most notable cases that Conan Doyle was involved with were the Cottingly fairies. A series of photographs taken by some young girls who claimed to have fairies at the bottom of their garden.

I have been fascinated by this era of spiritualism for a long time and had been asked many years ago to produce a Victorian seance.
Time passed and the project got shelved… until now.

The timing couldn’t have been more perfect, I took an opportunity to dive back into my magical passions recently and re-learn some old material that I had forgotten as the outside influences had meant that things had to be sidelined. I felt myself forgetting what drove my passions until this project landed on me.

Medium Paul Cissell contacted me and asked if I wanted to work with a team of old and new faces to resurrect the project for the Conan Doyle week of events.

I jumped at the chance, informed anyone that I knew who had interest in Conan Doyle and set about bringing the seance back to life!

This poster (not an official poster, I did it for fun) explains the event that has been created.

For more information on all the other events occuring Click here

For the seance facebook event page Click here
In the meantime, I’m relaxing and enjoying writing up a script for an event that is not to be missed.

Does the number of followers or facebook friends you have influence others?

Popularity on Twitter or Facebook Is Just That; It’s the Ability to Drive Behavior That Matters

Marketers have fantasized about a world in which they can identify a small number of influential folks who can credibly, effectively and cheaply push product for them.

One of the nasty side effects of the rapid growth of social media is that it threatens to warp our understanding of influence. It’s only natural that Twitter has given rise to any number of applications that rank users for various criteria, including their overall influence. Many of the 150 million or so of Twitter accounts contain multitudes: a feed of interests, passions and expertise, in many cases attached to a living, breathing, identifiable human whose popularity is neatly summed up by follower counts, the lists he or she is on, and the number of times he or she has been retweeted. But a marketer has to wonder what all that information means, if it adds up to anything more than a popularity contest and what, exactly, does a tweet influence a person to think, believe or do?

It’s hard to imagine that Justin Bieber, with his 6.4 million followers, is driving much behavior other than getting people to talk about Justin Bieber, frenetically retweet him, and possibly buy a record. Is that influence?
